Lighthouse Surprise - eBook Version

After Bobby and Christy’s father has a heart attack, their mother sends the kids to stay with their grandparents at the Lighthouse Station on Dune’s Point. Will they be able to uncover the big surprise and solve the mystery? Bobby, almost nine, is worried about leaving his father. Christy, soon to be twelve, doesn’t want to go because Gramps and Grams won’t allow her to bring her cell phone, something she can’t live without to text her friends every day. The children’s mother says, “When you hear about the big surprise your grandparents have awaiting you two kids for the summer, you’ll know what real fun is!” At home, Christy spends much of her time in her bedroom texting her friends instead of interacting with her brother. Once the siblings are at the Lighthouse Station in Washington State, they are soon involved in solving a mystery that leads them on a series of searches. Can they form a bond strong enough to work together?

About Karen A. Jones

Karen Jones enjoys writing children’s books, oil painting, gardening, and volunteering at a local senior center. After earning a Standard Teaching Credential from Southern California College (now Vanguard University), she taught elementary and junior high students in California. To help children learn easier, she wrote and illustrated six sets of self-teaching educational booklets called the Light Pole Books. These include a Beginning Reading, Math Facts, English, Bible, History/Geography, and Science series—available through jewelpublishing.com. She wrote and illustrated Andrew in Miss Plum’s Class, about a third grader who learns to show kindness. Her book, Twins’ Double Victory, A Story of Forgiveness, is a fictional story based on the experiences of her mother and twin sister who didn’t lose hope while living in three children’s homes during part of the Great Depression—available through Certa Publishing.

Karen was inspired to write Lighthouse Surprise, a fictional story for preteens, after observing children using their electronic devices in public places instead of communicating and interacting with each other. The story shows a glimpse of what life was like back when the author was growing up in the 1950s and ‘60s—a time when children developed their communication skills and imagination while having fun playing together.

Part of the proceeds from the book sales will go to two children’s homes in Arkansas.
