About Joselyn Hasty

I grew up in the beautiful upstate of South Carolina, the child of two preacher’s kids. I had one younger brother who delighted in tormenting me, as most younger brothers do. I was home schooled until I reached the fifth grade, at which point my parents placed me in a private school. Having not been blessed with any athletic ability, my extracurricular activities were artistic in nature— in High School, I was editor of the yearbook and school newspaper, and was a member of student council. From about the time I was in sixth grade, I began writing poems, short stories, and even a couple of novels. Mostly, they were humorous in nature, and written only for the amusement and entertainment of my friends, but as I matured into my teenage years, I began to use my meager talents to develop my relationship with God.

I met my husband the beginning of my senior year of high school. I guess you could say it was “love at first sight”... at least for him. The night we met, he went home and announced to his parents that I was the girl he was going to marry. They thought he was crazy at the time, but three years later, we were married, and began a life together.

About two years into our marriage, we were sitting in church, listening to another family’s testimony when we felt God calling us to adopt. We didn’t know when or how He would bring it about, but there was no doubt in our minds that adoption was in our future. During the fourth year of our marriage, my husband was laid off from his job. The only work he was able to find was three hours away in North Carolina. For six months, we lived apart, seeing one another on the weekends only, until our house sold. We moved to Northwestern North Carolina in late 2004.

With the job change came the ability for me to quit working, and the opportunity for us to start a family. We began trying to conceive in 2005. We hadn’t given up on our dream of adoption, but at the time, we felt it was financially out of our reach.

By the end of 2006, we had been diagnosed as “infertile”. Needless to say, it was a difficult, seemingly hopeless time for us. Christmas of that year, we were driving down to visit our family when I noticed a billboard advertising an adoption agency. I thought little about it at the time, but over the following couple of weeks, it kept coming to my mind. On New Year’s Day, I decided to visit their website. I was filled with excitement as I read that it was possible to adopt without accruing any debt. I emailed them right away, and our journey began. Eighteen months later, we were blessed with a nine-month-old baby girl named Isabella. Looking back on it all now, from that church service in 2003 to the billboard at Christmas, it is amazing to see God’s hand guiding us to our little girl.

Despite the constant joy we find in Isabella, we still desire to conceive a child. We have undergone multiple treatments, surgery, and taken many medications in our quest to conquer infertility. So far, we have not been blessed with a second miracle, but we remain hopeful and steadfast in our faith that one day we will be. As we continue trying to conceive, we are also looking for God to expand our family through another adoption. We are licensed foster parents and feel God’s calling to provide a loving, Christian home for the children He sees fit to place in our lives.
